Position Summary

HealthStream holds several accredited/approved provider statuses that allow us to offer continuing education for nurses, physicians, physician assistants, certified nursing assistants, and emergency medical services providers. In addition, we work with many organizations/boards to offer approved continuing education for other members of the healthcare team. The HealthStream Accreditation Department ensures compliance with accrediting/approving body standards, requirements, and/or expectations; maintains required CE documentation; and completes/facilitates CE reporting functions.

The Lead Nurse Planner (LNP), Accreditation has the overall responsibility for maintaining HealthStream’s accreditation statuses, providerships, and approving body relationships. This individual provides leadership, direction, and support for the strategic plan and direction of HealthStream’s Accreditation Department and Continuing Education (CE) Provider Units.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the primary subject matter expert and authority for all accreditation matters, providing expertise and updates with respect to accreditation issues and developments
  • Initiates and maintains HealthStream’s accreditation statuses
  • Provides leadership, direction, and support for the overall direction of HealthStream’s assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of all CE activities
  • Serves as liaison between the CE Provider Units and HealthStream management
  • Collaborates with External Nurse Reviewers, CME Course Directors, Social Work Consultant, Behavioral Health Consultant, and EMS Medical Director to ensure HealthStream business plans are consistent with accrediting/approving body expectations, standards, and criteria
  • Cultivates relationships with HealthStream business partners, customers, grant fund providers, accrediting/approving bodies, and internal stakeholders
  • Oversees content authoring, the continuing education process, and maintenance of CE documentation to ensure compliance with accrediting/approving body standards
  • Supports large and small scale educational needs assessment and provider program evaluation
  • Periodically reviews and analyzes evaluative data from CE activities, providing feedback to stakeholders and accrediting/approving bodies and initiating quality improvement efforts when indicated
  • Coordinates completion of accreditation-related reporting
  • Manages Accreditation Department functions, employees, and contractors, including recruitment and development of a team of either full-time or contract nurse planners, course directors, consultants, activity and program planners, content experts, and support personnel
  • Manages CE reporting services/requirements and identifies, resolves, and monitors reporting issues
  • Develops and maintains all continuing education policies in accordance with the rules and guidance of accrediting/approving bodies
  • Provides educational design, needs assessment/gaps analysis, and outcomes measurement expertise for HealthStream’s CE activities and CE programs
  • Performs other collateral duties and special projects to support the HealthStream Vision
Job Specifications

Knowledge/Education and Experience:

  • Advanced practice nursing degree (Master’s or above)
  • Current, valid, unencumbered nursing license
  • At least 5 years’ experience planning continuing education activities for healthcare professionals
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of accrediting/approving body criteria, standards, and expectations
  • Must possess knowledge about the functions and expectations of an Accredited Provider Unit and the role of Lead Nurse Planner
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the ANCC Content Integrity Standards for Industrial Support in Continuing Educational Activities and ACCME Standards for Commercial Support of Continuing Medical Education
  • Experience managing staff and contractors; including remote personnel
  • High level of integrity and professionalism
  • Education and/or experience in adult learning principles especially related to self-directed learning experiences
  • Ability to conduct needs assessment/gaps analysis as well as collect and analyze outcomes data
