Overview
CVP is seeking a TeleOncology Nurse Practitioner to join our team in providing our Nation’s Veterans with Hematology and Oncology telehealth services for the Durham VA Healthcare System in Durham, NC. Working hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00-4:30 pm EST. Prior telehealth experience is required. Previous VA experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide care via telehealth modalities: The TeleOncology Nurse Practitioner (TONP) delivers health care across the continuum of care within the service, is responsible for care coordination and quality of care, and has a specific focus on the population for “time to treatment” related to Cancer Screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up surveillance. This includes relatively independent functioning and ongoing collaboration with attending physicians, peers, and other healthcare team members. The TeleOncology Nurse Practitioner shall see approximately six (6) patients per day via phone, Clinical Video Telehealth (CVT), or VA Video Connect (VVC).
- Oncology Expertise: The TONP’s role as an advanced practitioner is characterized by the autonomy of hematology and oncology practice, in-depth nursing knowledge, and evidence-based expertise. Core clinical functions include performing history and physical examinations, diagnosing, treating, and managing acute and chronic health care problems, ordering appropriate testing and consults, performing adult care check-ups, prescribing medication, and treatments, and teaching patients’ health promotion and disease prevention. Staff shall demonstrate this in the clinical notes and peer observation.
- Process incoming consults by assigned team and subspecialty diagnoses: The Contractor’s staff shall follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) titled Team Consult Care Coordinator Registered Nurse (CCRN) Procedures, CLO 201, dated 5/22/2024, to handle all incoming consults to the assigned team. More than three (3) deviations from SOP guidelines in a quarter are considered unacceptable.
- Process individual view alerts in CPRS: Staff shall process view alerts no later than seven (7) days from the date they were created.
- Complete clinical progress notes in CPRS: Staff shall complete all clinical notes within 48 hours of the patient’s visit. The Contractor’s staff shall have no more than two (2) unsigned progress notes greater than 48 hours per week.
- Customer Service: Staff shall consistently demonstrate Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence (ICARE) values. The Contractor’s staff shall have no more than two (2) written, valid, substantiated complaints from internal or external customers per quarter.
Qualifications
- Ability to pass a required level of security clearance (US Citizenship Required).
- Prior experience providing telehealth services and working in hematology/oncology.
- Board Certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) with preferred certification as Advanced Oncology Certified Practitioner (AOCNP) from Oncology Nursing Society (ONS).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certified.
- DEA Certification.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, hospital terminology and/or clinics.
- Technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government’s requirements; will be provided training by the VA on appointment management, VA policy and procedures.
Location: 100% remote.
